Molkky pins in formation

Mölkky

Hei! The Finns know that tossing logs at numbered pins makes for a fun and thoroughly addictive pastime. A simple game but a tactical one.

Gameplay

  • Set up the Mölkky pins in formation.
  • Flip a coin to determine who goes first.
  • The first player throws the throwing skittle underarm, trying to knock over pins.
  • If one pin falls, the player’s score equals the number on the fallen pin. If more than pin falls, the player’s score equals the number of fallen pins. (Note: A pin is not considered fallen if it is leaning on another pin or on the Mölkky throwing skittle.)
  • If a player misses (has no score) three times in a row, he/she is out of game and acts as the scorekeeper.
  • After a throw, the fallen pins are placed upright at the place where they fell. Play continues to the next player.
  • The aim of the game is to reach exactly 50 points. If a player scores over 50, that player’s score is lowered to 25.
